Letter Writing:
Are you interested in sharing your faith journey and what God has done in your life with someone who needs encouragement and hope that only Jesus Christ gives? We need Christian men and women to write letters to individuals (Mentees) during their incarceration in State facilities. You can be a positive influence and prayer partner during their stay. You can encourage them to get involved in work, education and faith based functions. You can also encourage them to begin to set goals for themselves during and after incarceration. You have the option of using the KAMP Post Office Box as your return address if you would like. You would be notified of incoming mail addressed to you and arrangements would be made for delivery.
In the Community:
There are a variety of opportunities at this level. For those no longer incarcerated, Mentors can assist more personally by spending time with their Mentee and being an accountability partner. Topics to be covered include life skills, job hunting, resume writing, personal budgeting, goals, managing probation, etc.
Jail Level:
Mentor at the local jail level. KAMP has a standing meeting at the jail every Saturday evening – 6:30pm for women and 7:30pm for men. Mentors meet with inmates to inspire and instill faith. This helps them to better utilize what prison offers for a healthy outcome of their consequences. Mentors can be a prayer partner and even visit during visitation hours if desired. They can be available for phone calls from inmates and write encouraging letters. Over time, Mentors build trust with inmates and develop Mentor/Mentee relationships. Mentors challenge the Mentee to set and achieve goals.
